Invisalign Q & A

How does Invisalign work?

Invisalign is a clear aligner that is custom-made to fit tightly on your teeth. Every two weeks, you switch to a new aligner designed to create just the right amount of force to gently shift your teeth.

Before receiving your first Invisalign aligner, Dr. Saeghi takes impressions or scans of your teeth. Using those, he maps out a treatment plan to achieve the desired results. He then explains exactly how you can expect your teeth to move and approximately how long the entire treatment will take. He checks on your progress every six weeks or so.

For the best results, you should wear your Invisalign aligners 20 - 22 hours every day, only removing them to eat, brush, and floss. Because they are nearly invisible, most people won’t even realize you are wearing them. When treatment is complete you can preserve your beautiful smile and prevent teeth from shifting out of alignment with custom-made retainers.

How is Invisalign different than braces?

There are many benefits to using Invisalign over metal braces to straighten your teeth. While both options are effective in both simple and complex cases, Invisalign is unique in that it:

  • Is nearly invisible
  • Is painless
  • Is easily removed for eating and brushing
  • Offers noticeable results faster
  • Is free of uncomfortable wires and brackets
  • Requires fewer office visits than braces
  • Offers SmartTrackⓇ technology for predictable tooth movement

Am I a candidate for Invisalign?

Invisalign aligners are lightweight, simple to use, and very effective in treating many orthodontic issues.  Invisalign can help patients with overbites, crossbites, gaps between teeth, and teeth that are too crowded. Resolving these problems also prevents the decay, gum disease, and excessive wear often caused by misaligned teeth.

While not all orthodontic and dental issues can be treated with Invisalign, it may be right for you if:

  • You have healthy teeth and gums, free of disease and decay
  • Your orthodontic issues are not overly severe
  • You are committed to wearing Invisalign all the time - except to eat and brush
  • You are a teen or adult, because your teeth have stopped growing
